About Us

Founded in 1984 by a small group of people whose lives had been touched by the disease of addiction, Wilmington Treatment Center is now one of the nation’s premier providers of life-changing treatment for adults who have been struggling with substance abuse, chemical dependency, and certain co-occurring mental health disorders.

The goal of the Wilmington Treatment Center is to restore the individual to a joyful, healthier, more productive life that is free from destructive behavior and dependence on addictive substances. We believe successful recovery encompasses several changes including: improvement in self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, family interaction, vocational productivity, development of coping skills and a healthy life style change.

Since opening our doors, we have been committed to providing the best possible treatment based on evidenced based programming to those individuals seeking treatment. Wilmington Treatment Center has grown into a 139-bed center where adults can receive a full continuum of services, including inpatient detoxification, inpatient rehabilitation, partial hospitalization (PHP) with boarding, and intensive outpatient programming (IOP). Though much has changed since we accepted our first patient more than 30 years ago, our program has remained committed to providing the highest quality of care in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.

When an individual chooses to heal at Wilmington Treatment Center, he or she can expect to work in close collaboration with a team of dedicated and experienced professionals. Depending upon the patient’s unique needs, he or she may interact with our medical director who is certified by The American Board of Preventative Medicine specializing in Addiction Medicine, registered nurses, physicians assistants, certified substance abuse counselors, licensed clinicians, a licensed certified marriage and family therapist, a licensed recreational therapist, a certified art therapist, and other specialists.

In addition to being certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, our medical director is also licensed as an oncologist, internist, and general practitioner. Other members of our treatment staff have completed specialized training in cognitive processing therapy (CPT), the Gorski relapse prevention model, the Matrix Model (IOP) of addiction treatment, the Seeking Safety counseling model, and recreation therapy. The skills of our treatment staff and our licensure as a hospital means that Wilmington Treatment Center is uniquely prepared to care for individuals whose chemical dependency is accompanied by complex medical needs.

In order to ensure that we are best prepared to meet each patient’s specific needs, Wilmington Treatment Center features a wide array of therapeutic opportunities, treatment tracks, and therapeutic modalities. While each patient will have a unique experience while in treatment with us, the following are among the elements that may be incorporated into his or her treatment plan: individual, group, and family therapy; recreational therapy; leisure recreation activities, and medication management. We offer specific groups for young adults and middle adults, as well as gender-specific groups for both men and women.

Specialized treatment tracks at Wilmington Treatment Center include Foundations Training for individuals who have been experiencing chronic pain, and Operation Recovery, a focused treatment track for active-duty military members, veterans, and first responders. Operation Recovery features two counselors who are also military retirees.

All treatment at Wilmington Treatment Center is designed to encourage personal growth and promote lifelong recovery. We understand that treatment is just one step along the path of recovery, and we work diligently to guide our patients through the process of developing the skills and making the lifestyle changes that will empower them to achieve and maintain long-term recovery while living healthy and productive lives.

Going to Wilmington was the greatest decision I ever made. The encouragement I received will never be forgotten and I'm proud to say that I am sober today!
