A TYPICAL DAY AT WILMINGTON TREATMENT CENTER

Every day at Wilmington Treatment Center presents a new opportunity for growth and healing.

Morning
Patients wake up around 6:30 a.m. and make their way to our dining hall for a nutritious breakfast. Those who wish to attend an optional Bible study group walk to our auditorium, a beautiful room with cathedral ceilings and a row of sunlit windows.

A morning process group and educational lecture are held in the clinical building for all patients. Lectures are led by our medical director, dietician and therapists and address such topics as the disease of addiction, nutrition, aftercare and relapse prevention. We also offer creative groups such as “poetry jam” and music therapy.

Afternoon
After lunch, patients participate in additional process groups as well as activities with our full-time recreational therapist who helps them learn how to have fun without using drugs or alcohol.

During breaks, patients complete 12-Step work and therapeutic assignments, write letters, call home, play sports on our basketball and volleyball courts, or take a walk along our four-acre property. Once a week, patients may earn the ability to go on an outing.

At Wilmington Treatment Center, patients have a voice in their own recovery experience. A patient advocacy committee made up of elected patients meets with our directors once a week to discuss issues at our drug treatment center and make recommendations. “Fun Fridays” – a time when patients choose a special meal – were invented by patients, with past favorites including a taco bar, ice cream social and cupcake day.

Evening
Patients gather for dinner around 5 p.m. Meals are planned by our dietician in accordance with the American Heart Association guidelines, and include a variety of options ranging from soup and salad to chicken tetrazzini. Though the food is delicious, the highlight of mealtime is our cheerful kitchen staff who are always looking to brighten patients’ days with a song and dance.

Every evening patients attend on-campus AA/NA meetings and enjoy a few minutes of quiet time before lights out is called at 11 p.m.

Weekend
On weekends, family and friends are welcome to visit our drug rehab center and learn about the disease model of addiction and how they can best care for themselves and their loved one during treatment. Patients can also earn off-site family visits.
